(1) Acknowledgment and Parameters
Hark Herald wants to give credit to the Chinese Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) community for some of the information contained in this article. They closely monitor CCP disinformation activities in the United States and other countries.
Some commentators have objected that our articles exposing United Front infiltration in the U.S. paint Chinese Americans with too broad of a brush and stigmatize all Chinese Americans. Hark Herald wants to make clear that the vast majority of Chinese Americans are loyal Americans, productive citizens, and contribute much to the communities where they reside.
To give an example of the extent of the problem we are exposing, one person we are familiar with attended a Big 10 university and reported that out of the 300-400 Chinese students there at that time, roughly 10 were reporting on the other student’s activities to CCP agents of the United Front. This chills the rights of the other students because it places their families in China in danger, and makes those students subject to blackmail.
(2) Chinese were organized to participate in the J6 by the Chinese American Alliance for Trump (CAAFT)
CAAFT stands for the Chinese American Alliance for Trump. It is one of the largest pro-Trump organizations in the Chinese community. Hark Herald will introduce CAAFT in detail in this report.
Based upon the open-source information we have gathered, Hark Herald has concluded senior agents from the United Front, acting through CAAFT, were directly involved in the J6 insurrection.
Since March 2021, HarkHerald.com has been trying to bring awareness of multiple Chinese Intelligence operations to the public’s attention by publishing Twitter threads (@HarkHeraldPress), and actively working with mainstream media teams.
We now share additional results of our investigation that constitute a:
- continuing national security threat, and;
- threat that is targeting the U.S. electoral process in the upcoming elections.
This is based on the following facts:
- Before J6, an itinerary for proposed activities on J6, in Mandarin, was published on Chinese websites inviting Chinese to attend Trump’s rally:

- As a result, hundreds of Chinese Americans and recent immigrants were organized to participate in the J6, and offered transportation to the events:
- Some of the Chinese answered CAAFT’s call to come to Washington, entered the U.S. Capitol with other insurrectionists, and have yet to be identified or apprehended:
- According to the woman in the video below, who Hark Herald has identified as a Green card holder ineligible to vote, there were buses bringing Chinese to and from the Capitol. The following video is a short extraction, with subtitles, from the next longer exclusive video:
-
- EXCLUSIVE: The following is a cell phone video of the same woman’s presence and activities at the Capitol. The information about the buses above was extracted from this video.
This is never before seen footage of the J6 insurrection recorded on the cell phone of a Chinese participant in the attack on the Capitol, who later deleted the video from YouTube. It’s a long video. Please watch it all the way through.

(3) CAAFT’s J6 Plan Was Well Organized and Funded
The most important J6 organizer in the Chinese Community was CAAFT.
(4) History of CAAFT
This was the video published by CAAFT when it was established:

CAAFT was founded in November of 2016 after Donald Trump won the election. Its co-founder, Mr. Daniel Lou, contacted the people he had been associated with prior to the 2016 election, who had campaigned for Trump with him, and created CAAFT. He took credit for its creation in an interview with Epoch Times Chinese edition on October 21st, 2019. (The translation of this 10/21/19 interview with Epoch Times Chinese edition in which Lou explained the origin of CAAFT is posted later in this article.)
On December 22nd, 2019, Daniel Lou appeared on the Epoch Times NTD TV forum called “Decisive Battle 2020,” predicting the Republicans, with Chinese American support, would sweep the 2020 elections, beginning a long reign by Donald Trump.
Lou states the CCP found Hilary Clinton uncooperative, and at that juncture turned to plan B, which was to support Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. The reasoning was that the conspiracy theories Trump was projecting made his voting base more susceptible to manipulation.
According to Mr. Lou, Beijing has a master plan to finance interference in all US elections.
The plan calls for, according to Lou, Chinese oligarchs to finance the operation and donate millions of dollars at the direction of Beijing. These oligarchs include Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, and Mr. Guo Guangchang another multi-billionaire in China.
His presentation was corroborated by Jeffrey Liu, another founding member of CAAFT. This is Liu recalling how he led his organization to campaign for Trump.
The top CCP political strategist, Professor Mr. Jin Canrong, explained why electing Donald Trump was good for the CCP. He agreed with a statement, he alleges was made by the New York Times, that Donald Trump was “God’s gift to China,” because Trump would be much easier to manipulate:
Below are some key founding members of CAAFT. This is a picture taken on the night CAAFT was founded on November 18th, 2016:

-
As Peter Mattis presented in his May 16, 2019 address to Congress, China’s Digital Authoritarianism: Surveillance, Influence, and Political Control, the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has a specific definition in the United Front mandate:
The party defines the “Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation” as having three components. It is a core mission of the United Front .
-
-
- The first is building “a great, modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful.”
- The second is the national reunification of all areas claimed by Beijing, regardless [of] whether they were traditionally [owned] by China. [including Taiwan, Tibet and East Turkestan]
- The third is China’s emergence as a global leader in terms of comprehensive national power and international influence.

The above video is cited in a December 27th, 2019 report by the Epoch Times discussing Luo’s presentation at the December 22nd, 2019 forum. Hundreds of United Front organizations answered this call to campaign for Trump, which Mr. Lou called a new milestone for Chinese involvement in US politics.

Seven months before Lou appeared at the Epoch Times forum, in May 2019, a Federal Election Commission Complaint was filed by the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center, complaining of Election Finance law violations. Lou was one of the 13 individuals named in the Complaint. The Complaint alleged the Defendants:
“knowingly provided substantial assistance in the making of foreign national contributions [to] (John Doe, Jane Doe, and other persons), U.S. nationals who allowed their names to be used to facilitate such contributions or other straw contributions, including Li Jing, Jon Deng, Hui Liu, and/or other unknown persons (John Doe, Jane Doe, and other persons), and foreign national contributors, including Li Xiaohua and Ryan Xu, have violated Sections 30121 and 30222 of the Federal Election Campaign Act (“FECA”), 52 U.S.C. § 30101, et seq”
Cindy Yang, a frequent guest at Donald Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago, was listed as the first Defendant in the Complaint. Daniel Lou was listed as second Defendant:
The complaint led to an FBI counterintelligence probe: Report: FBI Opens Foreign-Money Probe Into Li ‘Cindy’ Yang
Among the 13 Defendants on the Complaint for Campaign Finance violations, Lou appears to be the most senior United Front operative, as is evidenced below by his connections with multiple United Front organizations and the Chinese Embassy.
Lou has not yet been held accountable for the alleged illegal campaign contributions. This could be a result of the Republican members of the Federal Election Commission voting against investigating some complaints filed with the Commission.
Lou was also recognized by the RNC as a volunteer fundraiser after he attended a RNC sponsored dinner, bringing enough guests to raise $81,000 for the RNC:
“According to Lou’s LinkedIn, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel offered Lou an official position as a volunteer fundraiser for Trump Victory after Lou brought 30 Chinese guests to a $2,700-per-seat fundraiser for Trump’s reelection held at Cipriani Restaurant in New York on Dec. 2, 2017. As an official fundraiser, Lou subsequently advertised Trump campaign events across the country to his friends on WeChat.” (source: How a Chinese Communist Party promoter tied to Cindy Yang joined the Trump campaign. Miami Herald, April 24th, 2019)
Republicans in the FEC blocked the investigation of Cindy Yang. (See, Republicans block probe of contributions by Chinese elites to Trump PAC through spa operator, Miami Herald September 27, 2022)
Mainstream media reported on Daniel Lou as a minor player in the Cindy Yang saga, when in fact Lou’s connections make him appear to be more senior in authority than Cindy Yang is in the United Front hierarchy.
When reporting on Mr. Daniel Lou, Mother Jones concluded that Lou was a CCP sympathizer. Another Chinese American Trump Donor Tried to Sell Mar-a-Lago Access to Overseas Clients
That appears to be a wrong conclusion.
[When campaigning for Trump, Lou raised] the banner of the “Chinese American Alliance for Trump” for the first time, which was also praised by Trump in a tweet.
Oct 21, 2019, Epoch Times Interview of Lou: https://www.epochtimes.com/gb/19/10/13/n11585785.htm
The person who “Raises the Flag,” is traditionally, in Chinese culture, the person who started the organization.
That this conclusion by Main Stream Mediia is erroneous is also evidenced by the fact that Lou created a critical organization in CAAFT, that was charged with a mission at the heart of the CCP goals in the US–the reelection of Donald Trump.
Lou’s connections with the United Front:
-
-
- He is the founder of a number of United Front organizations, one of which is the U.S.-China Businessmen’s Association. (美中企业家联谊会)One day after the association was established on Dec 5th 2012, People’s Daily featured this story on Dec 6th, 2012.

- China issues Belt and Road contracts, granting large amounts of money used to expand China’s influence in the Pacific.
-
The author of this article personally witnessed this being implemented in June of 2016. While traveling through the jungle on the island of Tanya, Republic of Vanuatu, to climb Mt.Yasur, I passed bulldozers and road graders building a road through the jungle. All the equipment was being operated by Chinese.
In February 2018, Long Innovations, a company Daniel Lou founded, was granted Belt and Road contractor status.
To the best of our research at Hark Herald, Daniel Lou is the only American citizen to have been granted a Belt and Road contract by China.
When the contract was granted, it was reported by the Hong Kong Commercial Daily, a major State-owned newspaper in Hong Kong. It is controlled by the Hong Kong Liaison Office of the CCP and has a branch office in Shenzhen, China. According to Wikipedia, the Hong Kong Liaison Office is the external name of the Hong Kong Work Committee of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. Only news important to the CCP is reported in their official newspaper.

- As the founder and CEO of a number of powerful United Front organizations, Lou is a frequent VIP guest to premier Pro-Beijing events:
-
-
-
- Lou’s status is also evidenced by his attendance at the CCP Military (PLA) 89th Anniversary held at the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., on July 27th, 2016.
-
Among roughly 400 invitation-only VIP guests at the event, which lasted 2 hours, Lou is in a photo posing with the highest-ranking Chinese diplomat (the Minister of the Delegation), in the US on that day. (The Ambassador was absent that day.)

-
- During his relationship with the Epoch Times, Lou has changed his story multiple times in interviews as to when he broke off his relationship with the CCP:
-
i. On October 21st, 2019, in an interview with the Epoch Times, Chinese edition,- Lou said he turned against CCP after 1989, stating:
The following is an AI translation:
“I am not a member of the party and was blacklisted by the Communist Party.” Lou Xinyue tells the history of his involvement with the Communist Party.
Back in 1986, when Lou was still a sophomore in college, the student movement that erupted at the University of Science and Technology of China reached Peking University, and when a student was arrested for the student movement, Lou and many of his classmates marched on the campus of Peking University and, as student representatives, demanded that the university “release the arrested students” and “not As a student representative, he demanded that the university “release the arrested students” and “not settle scores after the fall”…
This sense of justice undoubtedly became more evident during the June 4 Incident in 1989. Working for the Beijing Weekly at the time, he went to Tiananmen almost every day to organize his colleagues in the unit to participate in a march by some Beijing news media in support of the student movement….
“I saw with my own eyes people’s intestines coming out of their stomachs around the square, some bleeding from the entire lower half of their bodies, some falling down, some being carried away on crates …… I was a survivor who escaped from the square.”…
“I had a feeling of ‘disillusionment’ and thought there was no hope for China, so I figured out how to leave the country.” But the Communist Party rule at the time was that college students could not leave the country within five years of graduation, so he had to endure it at home. “Those four years after June 4 were a very low point in my life.”

ii. On November 4th, 2019, Lou stated in an interview with the Epoch Times English Edition, that in 2017 he changed from “friendly to the regime,” to being against the CCP after watching Guo Wengui’s video:
The following is an AI translation:
“Lou acknowledged that while he was previously “friendly to the regime,” he changed his stance in the past year as a result of two events: the onset of the trade war, and learning about allegations of corruption at the top levels of the Chinese communist leadership as described by fugitive dissident Chinese billionaire Guo Wengui (also known as Miles Kwok), who regularly vlogs on YouTube.”

iii. On May 15th, 2020, in another interview with the Epoch Times, Chinese edition. Lou said he turned against CCP after 2004:
The following is an AI translation:
“It was not until he saw the editorial “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” published by Epoch Times, a media outlet run by Falun Gong practitioners, that he was deafened by the book’s revelations about the evil nature of the Communist Party.”
“The Nine Commentaries (note: published by Falun Gong in 2004), on the Communist Party’s exposure of the Communist Party and communism allowed a previously confused and unconscious person like me to see the ugliness and evil of the Communist Party and the truth about the world. I am grateful to the Epoch Times and New Tang Dynasty for educating me.”

CONCLUSION
CAAFT advertised the J6 Trump rally at the US Capitol and published an itinerary on multiple Chinese websites. They arranged for buses to transport Chinese to the J6 event. At least one of those Chinese, standing on the Capitol steps with Jacob Chansley, was a Green card holder who was not yet eligible to vote, yelling “USA.”
We have her name and address. She is a South Carolina resident.
Chinese who had been alerted and recruited by the itineraries posted on Chinese websites, answered the call and turned out by the hundreds to travel to Washington D.C. on J6.
As evidenced above, at least one of those Chinese posted videos of themselves inside the U.S. Capitol.
CAAFT was Founded by Daniel Lou, whose connections to the Chinese Communist Party and the United Front Work Department, a Chinese agency charged with spreading Chinese influence and gathering intelligence, have been extensively documented in this article.
To our knowledge, none of the persons identified in this report have been held accountable for their actions on January 6th, 2021.
Stay tuned.
More to come.
